I don’t think Milwaukee Bicycle Co. (Ben’s Cycles) produces their own frames.

Lightfoot Bicycles in Hamilton, MT. They make recumbrant (sp?) bikes, so you might disqualify them as “road bikes” in the traditional sense. Also fantastic high performing trikes and quads, some w/ great hauling capacity and optional electric assist.

Thanks for all this fantastic work for those of us in love with customer frames. It will really help me when I’m ready to “pull the trigger” on getting one. Another company out of Colorado is Leopard Bikes. Not sure how fully handbuilt they are…..

I think you may have also missed Assenmacher Cycles in Swatrtz Creek Michigan as well.
    Here is his website:
Not much on his site and I am not sure if he is still building from scratch or not, but I know he is doing repairs on a daily basis so it wouldn’t surprise me if he would build if asked. You can find his email address on the site listed above.

Very impressive compilation – and heart-warming. At one time many good bicycles were made in the US – that industry remember, providing the stepping stone for the advent of the airplane. By the time I started riding though, all the note worthy bicycles were produced in Europe – except of course for the Schwinn Paramont. This year for the first time, I saw the North American Hand-build Bicycle Show. Now there seems no reason to look over-seas. Might there be a list as well of those who branch out into custom and innovative commuter/tour/travel/utility bicycles?
